Tips for keeping your skin healthy this Autumn

by Rio Rosa Mosqueta on September 22, 2016

With the shorter days and darker nights drawing in, it’s time to say goodbye to summer and dig out your favourite cosy, comfy knits. Now’s the time to start thinking about changing your skincare regime too, to help it recover after summer and prepare for the cooler weather ahead.

Here are our top tips for healthy autumn skin:

Get back to nature

A change in temperature can sometimes cause the skin to become irritated and dry. To help your skin get back to it’s best, try to avoid any skincare products that contain artificial fragrances or chemical ingredients. Opt for 100% natural products instead that will feed your skin with nutrients. Here’s a list of ingredients to avoid:

Parabens, Paraffin, Petrochemicals, Sulphates, Synthetic Fragrance, Synthetic Colour, PEG, TEA, DEA.

Scrub up

A summer of sunshine can often lead to dry and flaky skin. Brighten your complexion by removing dead skin cells with an oil-based exfoliator for extra nourishment. This will also help your skin to absorb moisturiser better.

Top tip – avoid exfoliators that contain plastic microbeads that are harmful to the environment. Choose a product like our Skin Brightening Exfoliator that uses golden bamboo powder as an effective, 100% natural alternative.

Repair

If you’ve spent too long in the sunshine this summer and suffered with sunburn, you should give it some TLC to help repair any damage. Rosehip seed oil is renowned for its rejuvenating properties. Ours contains high levels of essential fatty acids which promote cell regeneration from deep within the skin. Apply a few drops 2-3 times per day to help your skin recover from the sun.

Drench your skin

From sunny days to air-conditioned offices, the summer can leave our skin parched and dehydrated. Drench it with moisture by swapping to gentle cream cleansers and moisturisers. Try body butters for extra hydration too, and apply an Intensive Night Treatment like ours to really give your skin a moisture-boost!

It’s blended with Aloe Vera, Babassu Oil, Chamomile, Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Rosehip Seed Oil and Hyaluronic acid to help you get the very best in beauty sleep!

Protect, protect, protect!

With harsh weather ahead, your best defense is to prepare your skin in advance. Ramp up your regime by moisturising daily every time you cleanse.

Don’t forget the sun protection either – autumn sunshine can be damaging too! Opt for a moisturiser like our Day & Night Cream. It contains Red Algae, which is known for its natural UVA filter to help protect against premature ageing.

Finally, make sure those mitts are in tip-top condition by keeping your hands hydrated. Regular washing can leave them dry and irritated – always keep some hand cream handy to keep dryness at bay.
